Palermo racecourse

How to read a race in the programme and how a dividend turns into a payout. Here is a programme explained part by part and a payout calculator.

How to read a race in the programme

  1. 1Race number and post time Each race of the day has its number; the time is the start.
  2. 2Name, distance and surface The race name, how many metres it is run over and whether on turf or dirt.
  3. 3Conditions Who may run: sex, age, wins so far and the weight each horse carries.
  4. 4Saddle cloth number The number you say at the window or write on the ticket. It is not the starting gate.
  5. 5Horse and jockey The horse name, and below it the rider.
  6. 6Bets of the race Which pools are open for this race and the base of each ticket.

Real example: race 1 at San Isidro on Nov 1, 2026. Programmes at other racecourses usually carry similar parts.

How much do you collect?

You collect$5,300.00$5.30 per peso × $1,000

The dividend already includes the peso you bet: your profit is $4,300.00.

This page turns no dividend into a probability: for Palermo we found no source for the share the pool keeps.

Show the formula

Collect = dividend per peso × pesos bet

The payout maths

payout = dividend × amount bet

Example: To win, with $1,000 and a dividend of $5.30: you collect $5,300, of which $4,300 is profit.

Quinella (imperfecta)you get the first two, in any order
Trifectayou get the first three, in order
Double, pick 3, pick 4your horses win two, three or four races in a row

Names as in the San Isidro rules. Each racecourse publishes its own.

Three things in the programme

  1. The conditionsThey say who may run and with what weight. They explain why one horse carries more kilos than another.
  2. The baseFor exactas and trifectas each combination costs the programme base: the ticket costs combinations × base.
  3. The poolThe dividend depends on how many back the same horse. A levy comes off first, so on average bettors get back less than they stake.

Questions

How is an exacta paid?

The exacta dividend is per ticket of the programme base. If you hold one winning ticket and the dividend is $22,700, you collect $22,700.

Does the dividend include my stake?

Yes. To win, a dividend of $5.30 per peso means each peso comes back as $5.30: your profit is that minus what you put in.

Why no probability for Palermo?

Because turning a dividend into a probability needs the levy, and we found no source for it at Palermo. At San Isidro we did: see the dividends page.
